Meet the Team

CAROLINE GRAY
Club Manager
Caroline founded Astro in 1996, originally in a number of sports centres and schools in West Lothian, before moving into our own facility in 2012. Caroline was the head coach until 2015 when she took on the role of Club Manager.

SARAH NIMMO
Performance Co-ordinator
Sarah started off life as an Artistic Gymnast but we were fortunate that she came to Astro for work experience while in college and has been with us ever since! Although her competition days were over by then she did join Astro Eden to perform for a few years. She has been instrumental in building the competition and recreational sections at Astro. She is also a whizz with the sewing machine and has made hundreds of fabulous costumes and competition leotards for the lucky gymnasts of Astro over the years! Sarah has completed HND – Sports Coaching & the Development of Sport and a BSc – Sport & Exercise Science (Sports Coaching) along side her coaching qualifications. Her role includes organising Astro events and planning the competition and display groups timetable.

LOUISE RAMAGE
Club Development Co-ordinator
Louise has been an Astro member since she was 3 yrs old! She was a member of the Scottish performance squads in 2010-11 and competed for Scotland in the 2011 Celtic Cup, contributing towards Scotlands win. She began coaching at age 15 and has been instrumental in building the recreational and competition sections of Astro. Louise completed an HND – Sports Coaching & the Development of Sport. Her role involves planning the pre-school and recreational gymnastics curriculum at Astro.

NICOLE HIGGINSON
Head of Performance
Nicole has been a member of Astro since age 10 and had a long and successful competitive career before retiring to coach full time in 2019, although she is still a member of Astro Eden. Nicole’s role is the planning and delivery of the competition groups training over the year, as well as coaching several recreational classes. Nicole completed the BSC Developing Athletes through Professional Practice in 2022.

LORNA FYFE
Lead Coach
Lorna has been with Astro since the age of 10 and had a successful competitive career. She started coaching around age 16 and in recent years has been invaluable in our pre-school programme, creating lots of exciting lesson plans and themes for our youngest gymnasts. She also coaches in the competition groups at Astro.

LYNETTE RITCHIE
Lead Coach & Registration Administrator
Lynette had a previous gymnastics background and became interested in coaching when her daughter Holly joined Astro. She is now a level 2 coach and club judge and we are so glad to have her here! Lynette coaches in our pre-school and recreational sections and also does much of the administration at Astro.

CAITLIN HIGGINSON
Lead Coach
Caitlin has been a member of Astro since age 8 and had a long and successful competitive career before retiring to coach full time in 2017. Caitlin now coaches in the competition & display groups as well as several pre-school and recreational classes including the Teen and Adult class which she was instrumental in setting up in 2018.

EMMA MELVILLE
Lead Coach
Emma has been a member of Astro since age 6 and had a long and successful competitive career before retiring to coach full time in 2017. Emma now coaches in the competition & display groups as well as several recreational & freestyle classes. Emma is instrumental in planning the freestyle sessions at Astro.

LARA CASSIDY
Lead Coach
Lara has been with Astro since the age of 10 and began coaching in 2019. She is now a valuable member of the recreational and pre-school coaching team.

ALANNA MELVILLE
Lead Coach
Alanna has been with Astro since the age of 6 and began coaching in 2020 although she is still a member of Astro Eden. She is now a valuable member of the competition and recreational coaching team.

NIKKI MASLEN & JOANNE EDMISTON-MANN
Safeguarding Officers
Nikki & Joanne are the club Safeguarding Officers. Within their remit is the following:

  • Ensure all persons working with children, young people and vulnerable adults at the club are fully aware of what is required of them within the guidelines of the Associations Code of Practice
  • Be the first point of contact for coaches, helpers, parents and gymnasts on any issues concerning the well being of the club members, (poor practice or potential alleged abuse).
  • Liaise closely with the clubs trainee coaches, ensuring that the agreed procedures for the prevention of risk are followed
  • Act as adviser, when required, to the clubs management committee on matters of policy & procedures related to Child Protection
  • Ensure that all coaches and relevant officials, have the opportunity to access CP training Ensure that all incidents are correctly recorded and reported in accordance with SGA policy and procedures
